GoKawiilApple’s first foldable iPhone should be making its debut in just over a week. In the development process, Apple was reportedly mulling the idea of launching a new Apple Pencil to use alongside the iPhone Ultra – though it probably won’t make it to market.
This news comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who wants to make it very clear that this pencil probably won’t be announced next month. That said, he does detail exactly how it would’ve looked and worked.
It wouldn’t have been the same as Apple Pencils that currently exist for the iPad lineup. It was “stubbier,” to align with the shorter height of the iPhone Ultra. However, similar to Apple Pencils on the iPad, it would’ve magnetically attached to the side for storage and charging.
He notes that it would’ve been awkward to hold while you were using the iPhone Ultra, since it’d stick on the side, versus the iPad where it sticks at the top when you’re in landscape.
He also notes that it likely would’ve made “unsightly marks” on the much more delicate inside screen of the iPhone Ultra.
Ultimately, he reckons that Apple probably isn’t launching this to not conflict with Steve Jobs’ position when launching the original iPhone: “Who wants a stylus?”
I’d still say an Apple Pencil on iPhone Ultra would be rather useful, but it sounds like we won’t have one – at least for the time being.
