Smartphones have become increasingly capable of high-quality video capture. Apple debuted ProRes video on its iPhones years ago, but Android phones have also made major strides thanks to LOG and APV video capture. Now, Lexar has announced an extremely thin SSD that might be the one to get for people who film a ton of high-quality videos on their phones.
The Lexar Muse Ultraslim Portable SSD is marketed as the world’s thinnest portable SSD, with the company claiming that it varies from 1mm to 3.8mm thick. The company says it also comes with a magnetic carry sleeve, allowing it to be attached to an iPhone via MagSafe. This should also play nicely with magnet cases on Android phones or magnet-equipped phones like the Pixel 11 range.

Lexar says the portable SSD is compatible with iPhones, iPads, Macs, and “other” USB-C devices. It also supports up to 4K/120fps ProRes video capture on iPhones.
Expect read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s. That would meet Samsung’s minimum write speed requirement for APV capture. The Galaxy maker says you need external storage with 200MB/s write speeds for 4K/60fps video and lower, but 400MB/s for 4K/120fps and 8K/30fps video. Samsung’s 2026 flagships and the vivo X300 Ultra all support the APV codec for high-quality video capture. So this SSD could be ideal if you have one of these phones and regularly film professional-tier video content on them.
