Streaming for free with an Apple TV subscription, Mayday sees Troy (Reynolds) infiltrate Russian territory amidst the Cold War. Ex-KGB agent Nikolai (Branagh) becomes an unlikely ally in this caper.
Troy thinks he is going to be captured and killed, but Nikolai is sympathetic to American culture and he helps get Troy out of the country. Mayday is a twist on all the usual tropes of Cold War thrillers, with a lot of references to the cliches found in 1980s flicks like Top Gun.
If you’re looking for a Fun Friday night action comedy, Mayday just might be it, especially if you like the Ryan Reynolds shtick. The movie is getting good critical reviews too, with 84% on Rotten Tomatoes right now.
