Why This Matters

Apple is about to enter the foldable phone market, and a last-minute Bloomberg report says the device will be called iPhone Duo and start at $1,999 translating to a premium but lower-than-expected price. That pricing, reportedly subsidized by Apple absorbing memory cost increases, signals Apple wants foldables to be a mainstream product line rather than a niche halo device.

Key Takeaways
Worth a Look

Apple Pencil Pro — With the foldable iPhone Duo reportedly gaining Apple Pencil support, a Pencil Pro is the natural companion for sketching and note-taking on that big inner display. It brings squeeze gestures, barrel roll, and haptic feedback, and it magnetically attaches for charging and pairing.

Apple is officially set to unveil its first foldable iPhone in a few hours. On the eve of the event, Mark Gurman at Bloomberg has reported some last-minute details, including a spoiler for the foldable iPhone’s actual name: iPhone Duo.

iPhone Ultra is actually iPhone Duo

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is also Apple’s first with an inner and outer display. iPhone Duo, the one with two screens.

Gurman also reports that the price will cost as much as two iPhones: $1999. However, that’s considerably less than some analysts have predicted.

He reports that Apple is eating some of the cost of recent memory component price increases to keep the iPhone Duo at a competitive price.

Another iPhone Duo? Duo color options: white and dark blue.

Gurman also reports that the foldable iPhone Duo will “go on sale as early as October” without naming a release date. That’s potentially a few weeks later than the iPhone 18 Pro ship date, which is still expected for this month.

Apple Pencil support for iPhone Duo is also now anticipated after previously being considered but not expected.

Anyway, the event kicks off at 10 am PT … that’s about 12 hours from now. More to come throughout the day.
