When it comes to keeping your Android smartphone up to date, most people think of OS updates and security patches. Meanwhile, ensuring these updates go through easily is as simple as enabling an option to download them when connected to Wi-Fi.
However, you might be surprised to learn that there’s an entirely separate menu for updates to certain system services. And despite being tucked away, it’s still important to ensure these updates happen regularly.

Many of us take a set-and-forget-it approach to updates. When setting up your phone, you can enable automatic download updates over Wi-Fi. This ensures that when your phone manufacturer rolls out a new version of Android or a security patch, you receive the update without needing to manually check for new versions.
Of course, if your phone is lagging behind, you can go to Settings > System > Software updates on your phone to check for any pending updates to download. Here you’ll also find your Google Play system update.
