GoKawiilAmazon Prime Video adds short-form news clips to compete with TikTok
Amazon announced it is expanding Prime Video's news section with on-demand short-form clips covering local and national stories, initially available on TVs and living room devices before expanding to web and mobile apps. The clips will appear in Trending Topics and Local News carousels within the app's News destination, supplementing existing news partnerships available to all U.S. users regardless of Prime membership.

This move puts Prime Video alongside Peacock, HBO Max, Netflix, and Disney+, which have all added short-form clips this year in a bid to capture younger audiences who increasingly consume news through brief, informal video rather than traditional broadcasts. However, Pew Research suggests Gen Z's preference is less about clip length and more about authentic, unpolished presentation—a format challenge that simply repackaging existing content into shorter clips may not solve.
- Amazon is adding short-form news clips to Prime Video's News destination, starting on TV and living room devices.
- The feature will expand to web and mobile apps, joining a broader industry trend seen at Peacock, HBO Max, Netflix, and Disney+.
- Success depends on matching Gen Z's preference for authentic, non-produced content, not just shorter video length.
