MediaTek announced its Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M mobile processors, both built to handle demanding gaming and on-device AI tasks. The Pro variant is MediaTek's first chip built on TSMC's 2-nanometer process, promising better efficiency and performance than last year's Dimensity 9500, while the 9600M offers similar AI and gaming capabilities as a more affordable option. Both chips can reportedly sustain console-quality gaming at 185 frames per second.

This launch intensifies competition with Qualcomm, whose Snapdragon chips dominate flagship phones like Samsung's Galaxy line in the US, ahead of Qualcomm's own chip reveal later this month. MediaTek's chips already power many international flagship devices, such as Oppo's Find X9 Pro, so a leap to 2nm manufacturing could strengthen its position in high-end phones expected to launch later this year.
- MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 Pro is its first chip using TSMC's 2nm process for better efficiency.
- Both new chips support advanced AI features and 185fps console-quality gaming.
- The chips will compete directly with Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon flagship processor.
