GoKawiilApple has a new beta cycle beginning today, and it’s a surprising one: rather than the iPadOS 27.1 update we were expecting, iPadOS 27.2 beta 1 is now here.
Apple releases iPadOS 27.2 beta 1 for testing, skipping over iPadOS 27.1
iPadOS 27 launched this week to all users, and now Apple has skipped right over 27.1 for beta testers and has released iPadOS 27.2 developer beta 1 instead.
It’s unclear why today’s update isn’t designated 27.1. But so far, the one thing we know about iOS 27.1 is that it will ship with iPhone Duo.
Perhaps Apple plans to keep 27.1 focused exclusively on iPhone Duo-related changes? In any case, we’re interested to see what kind of new features iPadOS 27.2 might bring.
Shortly before iPadOS 27 shipped, Apple removed the ‘Suggestions’ feature that had previously been available in Messages, as well as the Passwords app option to have compromised logins agentically replaced with secure new logins.
Apple hasn’t said when those features will return, but it’s possible we’ll see them in today’s beta.
Another possibility is the redesigned Health app, which Apple said will arrive later this year with new AI enhancements.
