GoKawiilApple has released the first iOS 27.2 developer beta for iPhone. The update follows the release of iOS 27 to everyone on Monday. It also leaps over iOS 27.1, which Apple has shown as an iPhone Duo-focused release.
iOS 27.2 beta 1 arrives before iOS 27.1 beta
Today’s beta release follows the official launch of iOS 27 on September 14. The new version comes as a sizable 22GB update.
Apple has already detailed how the iOS 27.1 SDK will let developers take full advantage of the iPhone Duo display. You can see how apps will appear on iPhone Duo based on which iOS version they target here.
But today’s iOS 27.2 developer beta 1 release skips over iOS 27.1 for now.
Apple presumably wants to save iPhone Duo-specific code until closer to the new hardware’s release in October. However, developers will still need to prepare their apps for the new device. Apple has said to expect the tools for this to be ready by the end of September.
Apple has already pointed to other changes for all iPhones coming next month. This includes the redesigned Apple Health app as well as expanded Siri AI support.
“A more capable and conversational assistant with personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, onscreen awareness, and even more systemwide app actions, Siri AI is now rolling out as a beta in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish coming in October,” Apple confirmed this week.
This likely gives us an idea of when to expect the official release.
