GoKawiilmacOS 27's Photos app adds deeper AI editing and cross-platform Shared Albums
Apple's macOS 27 Golden Gate update skips a visual overhaul for Photos but packs in a new Tools pane with Apple Intelligence features, including an upgraded Clean Up tool, a generative Extend tool for expanding images, and a Spatial Reframing option that builds a 3D scene model to shift camera perspective. iCloud Shared Albums also gain full-resolution sharing across all photo and video formats and now let Android and Windows users contribute via iCloud.com.
GoKawiil's interpretation of the reporting above, not reported fact.
By opening Shared Albums to non-Apple users and supporting full-resolution media, Apple is lowering a long-standing barrier for mixed-device families and friend groups. The expanded generative editing tools also show Apple pushing on-device AI further into everyday photo workflows, competing more directly with Google Photos and Adobe's AI editing features.
- Clean Up can now fix larger, more complex objects with fast and high-quality modes.
- A new Extend tool uses generative AI to expand images beyond their original borders.
- iCloud Shared Albums now support full-resolution media and cross-platform contributions from Android and Windows users.
