WhatsApp expands watchOS emoji reactions
Late last year, WhatsApp launched a full-featured Apple Watch app, with support for call notifications, voice messages, chat history, and emoji reactions.
The launch was largely good news for Apple Watch users, especially since WhatsApp’s presence on watchOS had previously been very limited, relying almost entirely on system notifications to read and reply to messages.
Still, emoji reactions came with one notable limitation: users could only choose from six preset emojis. Reacting with anything else required reaching for an iPhone.
Now, as reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is rolling out support for the full set of emojis available on watchOS. The site notes that tapping and holding a message still reveals the six default reactions, but users can now open a larger picker with recently used options and the full system emoji library split into categories.

WhatsApp organizes emojis into 8 categories: Smileys, Nature, Food, Activity, Travel, Objects, Symbols, and Flags. Users can scroll through these to find the emoji they want to use as a reaction. They can tap any emoji category to expand the list. It is also possible to choose a recent emoji from the top of the list.
The site notes that although the feature is now officially rolling out, it may still take a few weeks to reach everyone, as WhatsApp is known for its gradual rollouts.
