Last month, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated that a cheaper model of Apple Vision Pro wasn’t due until late 2027. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has now corroborated that timeline in a new report that says the device, codenamed N100, will be both “lighter and cheaper”.
However, the device’s design has not yet been finalized. Work on the project is apparently expected to be finished in 2026, with a ramp up to a public launch in 2027.
In the meantime, Apple will debut a new Apple Vision Pro generation featuring a redesigned strap and an M5 processor. That spec bump model will debut as soon as the end of this year, and will server as a stop-gap to maintain Apple’s presence in the headset market.
Apple is also continuing to iterate on the Vision Pro’s software, with visionOS 26 launching later this year with a bevy of new features.
But all the attention is on the as-yet-unconfirmed N100 device. The two main criticisms that are levied against the Vision Pro is its excessive weight and excessive price. The N100 ‘Apple Vision Air’ will address both of those concerns.
Apple is apparently still deciding exactly what features will make the cut, in order to reach the significantly cheaper price point. Kuo suggested that Apple will use cheaper materials like plastic for the casing, and the device will feature less sensors than its high-end Vision Pro sibling. The front-facing EyeSight display may be omitted to keep price as low as possible.
