GoKawiilPixel Search app gains privacy toggles, hints at Gemini-powered suggestions
A new version of Google's Pixel Search app adds a 'Privacy & Permissions' settings section with toggles for 'Help improve Pixel Search,' 'Call Logs,' and 'SMS.' These let users control whether their call and message history is used to improve contact suggestions, though disabling them doesn't stop call or SMS results from appearing in search unless app permissions are revoked separately. Code analysis by Android Authority also uncovered references to an unreleased 'Gemini-powered suggestions' feature.

The added privacy controls suggest Google is responding to concerns about how much personal data its on-device search tools access, giving users more granular opt-outs. The hidden Gemini reference indicates Google may be planning to bring AI-driven suggestions into system-level search, which could make Pixel Search more predictive but also raise fresh questions about how such AI features handle sensitive data like call and text history.
- Pixel Search now has a 'Privacy & Permissions' settings section with three new toggles.
- Users can limit how call logs and SMS data are used for contact suggestions, though full exclusion requires separate permission changes.
- Code evidence points to an unreleased 'Gemini-powered suggestions' feature in development.
