Preorders begin October 13th with shipping on October 30th, but the Siri AI features the chip is built to support won't be available until a later software update. Shipping hardware capable of AI features before the software is ready suggests Apple may be prioritizing hitting a holiday-season release date over delivering a complete Siri AI experience at launch. The requirement for an iPhone 15 Pro or newer to unlock Siri AI could also push some customers toward upgrading their phones, extending Apple's ecosystem lock-in. The broader home product lineup indicates Apple is pushing harder into competing with Amazon and Google's smart home ecosystems.
- HomePod Mini 2 costs $149 and ships October 30th, replacing the original Mini.
- Its S10 chip will eventually enable conversational Siri AI, but only via a future software update requiring an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
- Apple simultaneously launched the HomeView smart display, a new Apple TV 4K, and smart home devices co-developed with LG and Schneider Electric.
