GoKawiilApple to roll out Apple Intelligence in China starting with iOS 27.3
Apple announced via its Chinese newsroom that Apple Intelligence will debut in China with iOS 27.3, beginning as a beta on November 4th and reaching full release in December. The rollout includes features like notification summaries, real-time translation, writing tools, visual intelligence and object removal from photos, but not the new Siri. Apple has partnered with Alibaba to integrate its Qwen chatbot into some experiences, similar to its existing ChatGPT integration elsewhere.

The move suggests Apple has cleared regulatory and technical hurdles that had kept its AI features out of its second-largest market for nearly a year after their global debut. Using Alibaba's Qwen rather than a Western AI partner likely reflects China's restrictions on foreign AI models, positioning Apple to compete locally against homegrown AI-equipped phones. Reuters reported Apple built a dedicated LLM for China, indicating the company sees the market as requiring a distinct, compliant AI strategy.
- Apple Intelligence launches in China via iOS 27.3 beta on November 4th, full release in December
- New Siri is excluded; only earlier features like translation, summaries and photo editing tools are included
- Apple partnered with Alibaba's Qwen chatbot instead of ChatGPT to meet China's regulatory environment
