If implemented, this would position Apple's HomeView as a dual-purpose smart home hub and security camera, an area Google has left unaddressed on its docked Pixel Tablet despite offering similar features on the Nest Hub Max. The approach could let Apple differentiate by emphasizing on-device processing and iCloud Plus storage rather than requiring a separate security subscription, though this remains speculative based on leaked strings rather than an official announcement.
- Leaked HomeView Software 27.2 strings suggest a HomeKit Secure Video camera mode using the device's 12MP Center Stage camera.
- The feature would include four operating states and three presence-based modes, plus privacy indicators like chimes and notifications.
- Google has not added similar Nest Cam-style security features to its Pixel Tablet, highlighting a potential divergence in smart display strategy.
