At this point, it’s getting increasingly harder to believe that Apple won’t launch a foldable iPhone, than the alternative. From Ming-Chi Kuo to Mark Gurman, from reports to leaks, the timeline and hardware details have started to align. And now, yet another analyst has joined the chorus.
TrendForce doubles down on iPhone Fold screen dimensions
In its latest market forecast, TrendForce echoes recent rumors and reports that claim Apple’s debut in the foldable space is likely to happen in the second half of 2026, catalyzing “a potential market boom,” thanks to the attention it will bring to the segment.
The report also reaffirms earlier rumors about the device’s display sizes:
“TrendForce indicates that Apple will likely launch its first foldable phone in the second half of next year, featuring a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal display. If confirmed, Apple’s entry is expected to significantly raise consumer interest and acceptance of foldables, especially among high-end users. “
For reference, the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 features a 6.5-inch external display, and an 8-inch internal display.
A potential catalyst for a broader market shift in 2026
According to the report, foldable phone shipments will reach 19.8 million units this year, with an overall “market penetration rate of around 1.6%, on par with 2024,” despite improvements in pricing and in hardware.
TrendForce also forecasts that while Samsung will continue to lead the segment, its global share will drop to 35.4% in 2025, down from 45.2% last year, as other brands like Huawei, Honor, Lenovo, and Xiaomi gain ground.
Finally, the report also notes that foldables are still largely positioned as premium, niche products, and most consumers continue to prefer conventional bar-type phones. At least for the time being.
