Apple has launched its first ever public beta for AirPods firmware, bringing forthcoming iOS 26 features to AirPods users ahead of their fall launch. Here’s everything new.

Apple debuts first ever public beta for AirPods firmware

AirPods beta firmware has historically been difficult to install. That changed this summer, when the developer beta became easier to get than ever.

And now, for the first time, Apple has launched an AirPods firmware public beta too.

You can visit beta.apple.com to enroll in Apple’s Beta Software Program for AirPods.

Currently, beta firmware is only available for the following models:

AirPods Pro 2

AirPods 4

This limitation is likely because the majority of new features require an H2 chip, which is exclusive to these models.

When Apple ships iOS 26 in a wide release this fall, all AirPods users are expected to benefit from new firmware. However, certain features will still be limited to select models.
