This 2001: A Space Odyssey Poster Is as Beautiful as the Film Itself

Few films lend themselves to alternative movie posters as well as 2001: A Space Odyssey. Director Stanley Kubrick crafted the film in such a way that not only does it span millennia in the story, but its visuals have a similar scope. As a result, some artists will focus heavily on the technology or spaceships from the film. Others might focus on the stargate sequence or the ending, and there’s also all the unforgettable iconography like the monolith or Hal. Basically, there’s a lot to draw from, but artist Deb JJ Lee somehow draws them all together beautifully for their new poster. The image has that ethereal, dream-like quality of 2001‘s finale; the cold, tech-driven visuals of the middle; and even the grounded, prehistoric bits from the beginning, all in one. io9 is excited to debut Lee’s new poster for 2001, which will go on sale from Mutant at noon today, April 10.
