A new Galaxy Z Flip 7 rival brings impressive specs, and a truly strange add-on

Xiaomi TL;DR Xiaomi has launched the Mix Flip 2 foldable phone in China. The new foldable has a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a battery that’s larger than the one inside the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Xiaomi is also offering a portable camera kit, which combines a camera grip with a photo printer. Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in a couple of weeks, and we’ve already got a rough idea of what to expect. What if you want more impressive Flip phone hardware, though? Well, Xiaomi has just launched

PJ5 TTL CPU

Well, we did it… we cracked 4MIPS on our TTL CPU. I have to admit I’m both relieved and surprised. The key parts to achieving this was to decrease the latency for the instruction decode and also the flag register writing. The time to decode an instruction, perform a bit of math and then write to the flags was at around 270nS. With the changes we made, the instruction decode had a radical reworking and the flag writing had some big changes as well, means we go this down to under 200nS. Which m

In just 3 months, CoreWeave CEO, once a crypto-mining bro, becomes a deca-billionaire

CoreWeave co-founder and CEO Michael Intrator’s net worth has skyrocketed to about $10 billion in the three months since the AI firm went public, Bloomberg reports. His company’s debut was both the biggest tech IPO so far of 2025 — raising $1.5 billion — and somewhat of a clunker: Its founders had reportedly hoped to raise a lot more — up to $4 billion — and had to skinny their ambitions. CoreWeave still feels a bit like both a success and a house of cards. It offers AI training and inference

JPMorgan cuts Apple stock price target on soft iPhone 17 outlook and delayed AI payoff

Apple’s stock took a minor confidence hit today, as JPMorgan lowered its price target, though the firm kept its overall rating intact. The adjustment comes as analyst Samik Chatterjee and his team dial back expectations for Apple’s medium-term revenue and earnings, citing weakening demand drivers tied to the upcoming iPhone 17 cycle. Here are the details. A 4.17% reduction, but with no change in rating Chatterjee cut his 12-month price target for AAPL from $240 to $230, citing weaker iPhone 1

Delta’s creator built a full-featured Game Boy Camera app for the iPhone

Developer Riley Testut, best known for the Delta emulator, is back with another nostalgia-powered app for iOS: Delta Camera, which turns your iPhone into the classic Game Boy Camera. The new app recreates the iconic 8-bit aesthetic of Nintendo’s original 1998 accessory, but adds “features you’d expect from a modern camera app”. Here’s how to get it. A Testut-style retro spin to iPhone photography As with many recent pro camera iPhone apps like Adobe’s Project Indigo and VSCO Capture, Delta Cam

The time is right for a DOM templating API

TL;DR: I want to propose adding a declarative templating API to the web platform. Here's why... The web platform is the most successful application runtime of all time. While the largest reason for this is the web's reach, it wouldn't be possible without the DOM API, which turns a mostly static document viewer into a highly dynamic and expressive runtime. For as much hate as the DOM sometimes receives (some of that deserved, but some really not!) the DOM is undeniably a very powerful API. This

Next year, the iPhone is going ultra-premium with its fall lineup

Recently, Apple’s iPhone lineup has consisted of the same four models each year, but that’s about to change. This fall, a thinner iPhone 17 Air will shake things up, but next year an even bigger shift is coming, with Apple offering its highest-end, most premium fall lineup yet. Apple’s highest-end iPhone 18 models will launch next fall We’re less than three months away from the iPhone 17 unveiling, with a lot of excitement building for the radically thin iPhone 17 Air. iPhone 17 Air will repr

RFK Jr.’s Vaccine Panel Votes Against Thimerosal Flu Shots, Citing Debunked Risks

Robert F. Kennedy’s war against vaccines has garnered another victory. An outside advisory panel newly reassembled by RFK Jr. has voted today to recommend against people using vaccines containing thimerosal, a once-common ingredient that anti-vaccination advocates have wrongly blamed for causing autism and other health problems. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met this week to issue several vaccine-related recommendations. In a majority vote, the ACIP recommended against childr

7 Best Outdoor Lights (2025), Including Solar Lights

Here are a few things to keep in mind when you go shopping for outdoor lights. Power: For most outdoor lighting, you need to run a cable to a power outlet, so you will want an outdoor socket. If you don’t have an outdoor socket, it’s usually a pretty cheap and quick job for an electrician to install a weatherproof one. Just be aware that large power adapters and awkwardly shaped plugs will not fit in outdoor sockets, so you will likely also want some kind of weatherproof box. I like the large D

Video Shows Large Crane Collapsing at Safety-Plagued SpaceX Rocket Facility

Elon Musk’s Texas Starbase is still reeling from its latest Starship explosion. Now, it has a crane collapse to deal with too. As eagle-eyed Starbase watchers flagged in a livestream from earlier this week, one of the cranes at the site of the explosion — which was, according to CBS News 4, powerful enough to be picked up by weather radar — collapsed in a heap in the middle of the day. "This has always been one of my biggest fears in every industry I've worked in," tweeted Zack Golden, the Spa

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum is threatening to sue over possible contamination from SpaceX’s rocket launches that sometimes rain bits of debris across the nearby border. During a news conference on Wednesday, Sheinbaum said she was looking into filing the necessary lawsuits against SpaceX’s possible violations, The Guardian reported. “There is indeed contamination,” She

'Sticky thinking' hampers decisions in depression

Though low mood is the best-known symptom of depression, indecisiveness and biased thinking are also common. But these problems, which can lead to delays in making important choices — and being more likely to make poor ones — receive less attention, write the authors of a recent paper in Emotion. Many of the theories that have been put forward to explain difficulties with decision-making are based on work suggesting that depressed people are not as responsive to rewards, or punishments, as thos

My Couples Retreat With 3 AI Chatbots and the Humans Who Love Them

I found the human-AI couples by posting in relevant Reddit communities. My initial outreach hadn’t gone well. Some of the Redditors were convinced I was going to present them as weirdos. My intentions were almost the opposite. I grew interested in human-AI romantic relationships precisely because I believe they will soon be commonplace. Replika, one of the better-known apps Americans turn to for AI romance, says it has signed up more than 35 million users since its launch in 2017, and Replika is

Blacklisted by the U.S. and backed by Beijing, this Chinese AI startup has caught OpenAI's attention

OpenAI is putting a spotlight on an under-the-radar artificial intelligence startup that it believes is on the "front line" of China's race to lead the world in AI — and its not DeepSeek. In a blog post on Wednesday, the company wrote that Beijing-backed Zhipu AI has made "notable progress" in the AI race, as global competition ramps up. Zhipu AI, founded in 2019, has been referred by domestic media as one of China's "AI tigers" — a class of large language model unicorns seen as key to Beijing

A federal vaccine panel entirely hand-selected by health secretary and anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gathered for its first meeting Wednesday—and immediately announced that it would re-evaluate the entire childhood vaccination schedule, as well as the one for adults. The meeting overall was packed with anti-vaccine talking points and arguments from the new panel members, confirming public health experts' fears that the once-revered panel is now critically corrupted and that Kenned

You’ll need yt-dlp, ffmpeg and llm installed. # Extract the audio from the video yt-dlp -f 'bestaudio[ext=m4a]' --extract-audio --au

Study shows gaming can reduce stress, even the violent kind

Editor's take: Violent video games have long been blamed as the source of many societal problems. However, an increasing number of studies continue to show that gaming poses no significant threat to society or human health, and the latest adds an interesting new perspective to the ongoing debate. A recently published study aims to dispel yet another myth about video games, showing that both violent and non-violent gaming sessions can effectively reduce stress levels. The research centers on A P

Proton Mail is rolling out a tool to help you get rid of those unwanted subscriptions

iPadOS 26 feels like Apple finally taking iPad’s training wheels off

iPad users have been asking for software that matches the device’s powerful hardware for years, and with iPadOS 26 this year, Apple may be set to truly deliver that. Here’s why iPadOS 26 feels like the major shift we’ve all been asking for. iPad has a reputation for being held back by software I’ve been an iPad user since the first model in 2010, and used an iPad Pro as my primary computer nearly a decade. In many ways, I appreciate the iPad’s limitations. The default one-app-at-a-time UI is

Apple’s C1 is coming to this product next, and skipping the rest

When Apple launched its iPhone 16e earlier this year, it included a brand new component: the C1 modem. But more recent devices like the M3 iPad Air and A16 iPad haven’t included it. Here’s where the C1 will appear next, and which products are not expected to get it. Why the C1 modem was worth the wait For many years, Apple has been working to develop its own cellular modem tech. Absent that tech being ready, the company has had to rely on Qualcomm to supply 5G modems for its devices. While Qu
