Microsoft surprises MS-DOS fans with remake of ancient text editor that works on Linux

Last month, Microsoft released a modern remake of its classic MS-DOS Editor, bringing back a piece of computing history that first appeared in MS-DOS 5.0 back in 1991. The new open source tool, built with Rust and simply called "Edit," works on Windows, macOS, and—in a twist that would have seemed unlikely three decades ago—Linux. The cross-platform availability has delighted longtime users who never expected to see Microsoft's text editor running on their preferred operating system. "30 years

iPadOS 26 is awesome, but it still can’t do these 5 Mac essentials

Before we deep dive into this topic, I want to mention that I love iPadOS 26. Yes, it’s the first beta, so plenty of tweaking and optimization still needs to get done. But overall, it’s been what I have wanted on iPadOS for years. That being said, a few things still hold it back from being a true MacBook replacement for some people. Cloudflare blocks record 7.3 Tbps DDoS attack against hosting provider

Cloudflare says it mitigated a record-breaking distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack in May 2025 that peaked at 7.3 Tbps, targeting a hosting provider. DDoS attacks flood targets with massive amounts of traffic with the sole aim to overwhelm servers and create service slowdowns, disruptions, or outages. This new attack, which is 12% larger than the previous record, delivered a massive data volume of 37.4 TB in just 45 seconds. This is the equivalent of about 7,500 hours of HD streaming o

‘Dosa Divas’ Is a ‘Spicy’ New Game About Fighting Capitalism With Food

As protesters faced off against ICE agents and law enforcement in Los Angeles, game developers gathered just a few miles away for Summer Game Fest. They’d come to the annual show in early June to show off their games and make professional connections. The team at Outerloop Games was no different. But the studio, led and staffed by brown and Black developers, many of whom are immigrants themselves, had extra precautions to consider: “In case of an ICE raid,” says game director Chandana Ekanayake

I tried to replace my aging Pixelbook with an iPad on iPadOS 26; here’s how it went

Oliver Cragg / Android Authority It’s been nine years since Apple released an ad for the 2016 iPad Pro, which asked, “What is a computer?” That ad has been mocked ever since, as the iPad has always been seen as too compromised compared to a MacBook, Chromebook, or Windows laptop to serve as a full computer replacement for most people. However, iPadOS 26 brings some significant changes to the iPad, and I think it might be enough for the iPad to replace my aged Google Pixelbook. So, I installed

Chart shows iOS, iPadOS, and macOS release timing trends over the years

With WWDC25 wrapping up, the next big milestone on Apple’s calendar is the fall OS release season. And while many already have a mental map of how these rollouts usually go, a new chart making the rounds offers a great visual snapshot of when each OS has landed since 2013. Did Apple finally turn the iPad into a MacBook alternative? My first look at iPadOS 26 says yes

M3 iPad Air running iPadOS 26 Developer Beta. Prakhar Khanna/ZDNET My biggest takeaway from WWDC 2025 is that I can finally use my iPad Air to its full potential. For the longest time, the iPad has been a product that I've wanted to add to my workflow but couldn't due to its rigid operating system -- one that doesn't necessarily complement the iPad's flexible hardware. But iPadOS 26 is finally bridging the gap between the Apple tablet and a computer. Also: The Kindle Scribe beats my ReMarkabl

iPadOS 26 is perfect for the larger iPad model that’s coming

iPadOS 26 is a huge update for iPad users, with the biggest productivity changes ever introduced on the platform. While its new windowing system should be great for existing iPads, it also looks like a perfect fit for the larger iPad model Apple has on the way. ‘iPad Fold’ with 18.8-inch screen will pair perfectly with iPadOS 26’s upgrades Apple launched the first iPad Pro in 2015 with what then seemed like a giant 12.9-inch display. But ever since then, the largest iPad has stayed capped at 1

Your iPad is your new computer

After its WWDC 2025 event, Apple described its upcoming iPadOS 26 update as “the biggest iPadOS release ever.” This doesn’t seem like it’s just a self-aggrandizing exaggeration, though — iPadOS 26 could actually change the way we think about the utility of a fifteen-year-old product that has long felt like an oversized iPhone designed for a cyclops. The new OS brings us multi-tasking tools, a new windowing system, and the Preview app, which may not sound as alluring as “Liquid Glass.” But if yo

iPadOS 26 just made the entry level iPad the best value in the lineup, here’s why [Video]

The best part of Apple’s keynote yesterday, for me, was the introduction of iPadOS 26. Apple finally opened up the floodgates and gave iPad users everything they wanted.
