IEA chief says cost, security and climate goals now favor electrification

IEA head Fatih Birol said at the United Nations that the traditional energy trilemma—balancing cost, security and clean energy—is increasingly aligning in favor of electrification, partly due to disruptions from the Iran war raising fossil fuel prices. The IEA's new report finds $100 of electricity now powers an EV nearly three times farther than $100 of gasoline powers a gas car, and buys roughly 40% more heating days via heat pumps than gas boilers.

Unsealed NYT lawsuit filings show Microsoft knew AI created 'doom loops'

Newly unredacted documents in the New York Times' copyright lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI show internal Microsoft materials acknowledging that AI products were creating 'doom loops' that undermine the economic foundations of the content creators supplying their training data. One document states the company's AI content strategy threatens the performance of its models and the broader web by damaging the very suppliers it depends on.

Open-source LDraw Nova lets AI models design 2,000+ piece LEGO builds

Developer Carlos Antelo released LDraw Nova, an open-source tool that lets AI models like GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5 design LEGO models from text prompts, outputting LDraw-format CAD files viewable in programs like LDView and LeoCAD. One example, the Sakura Garden, contains 2,175 pieces, but Antelo says none of the AI-generated designs have actually been built with physical bricks yet.

In its place, Gallery now offers direct syncing with Google Photos, though only personal Google accounts are supported, not Workspace accounts. Existing OneDrive backups remain intact, and users can still back up to OneDrive manually through Microsoft's own app.

WIRED's review of Meta's third-generation Nova smart glasses finds a smaller, less noticeable camera housing but otherwise similar functionality to the Gen 2 model. Features like Conversation Focus and Muse AI integration are not yet available on these frames, and the built-in AI assistant still struggles to answer basic questions about the glasses themselves.
