In fact, adults aged 65 and older are now the only age group in the US with a growing divorce rate. For the over-5

The value of institutional memory

In 1978, a dredging gang working for British Waterways was struggling with a problem. They were trying to clear obstacles on the Chesterfield Canal so they could stabilise a concrete wall — not an easy day’s work. But what really had them stumped was a heavy iron chain on the canal bottom. After various attempts, they hooked the chain to their dredger. That did the trick. A firm pull removed the chain and the block of wood on the end of it. The gang took a well-earned break for tea. The tea bre

Gemini is ready to start dreaming up images in Google Docs on Android

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Google Docs got started using Gemini to generate images last year, delivering a desktop tool. This month, that’s expanding to Google Docs on Android. You’ll need an AI Pro, AI Ultra, or supported Business or Education plan to take advantage. Generative AI is a reality, and while it’s probably too soon to categorically declare it “here to stay” (tastes do change, after all), this is one genie you’re going to have a bit of trouble getting back in the b

Read This Before You Trust Any AI-Written Code

We are in the era of vibe coding, allowing artificial intelligence models to generate code based on a developer’s prompt. Unfortunately, under the hood, the vibes are bad. According to a recent report published by data security firm Veracode, about half of all AI-generated code contains security flaws. Veracode tasked over 100 different large language models with completing 80 separate coding tasks, from using different coding languages to building different types of applications. Per the repor

Figma’s stock soars in its highly anticipated IPO, market cap instantly hits $45B

Figma began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday after a long delay. It soared so quickly that trading was halted for a short time due to market volatility. The price is currently bouncing between $101 and $112 with a mid-day market cap of $45 billion, Yahoo Finance reports. The company and existing investors sold shares at the IPO price of $33 per share. Quite the pop. There has been so much demand for this stock that people on X are posting funny pictures of their orders being

Breaking the WASM/JS communication performance barrier

In sledgehammer every operation is encoded as a sequence of bytes packed into an array. Every operation takes 1 byte plus whatever data is required for it. Each operation is encoded in a batch of four as a u32. Getting a number from an array buffer has a high constant cost, but getting a u32 instead of a u8 is not more expensive. Sledgehammer bindgen reads the u32 and then splits it into the 4 individual bytes. It will shuffle and pack the bytes into as few buckets as possible and try to inline

If you’re a fan of Prime Video’s Fallout show and the games it’s based on, it sounds like Bethesda’s getting ready to capitalize on its current and future success. Talking to Variety, Fallout 76 creative director Jon Rush teased that game’s team and the creative forces behind the series have discussed “lining things up with the seasonal releases of the show.” The implication is some in-game tie-ins to the show, maybe skins for the key characters or an in-game event reminiscent of certain episod

LinkedIn CEO says AI writing assistant is not as popular as expected

In Brief While LinkedIn users seem to have embraced AI, there’s one area that’s seen less uptake than expected, according to CEO Ryan Roslansky: AI-generated suggestions for polishing your LinkedIn posts. “It’s not as popular as I thought it would be, quite frankly,” Roslansky told Bloomberg. When asked why, he argued that the “barrier is much higher” to posting on LinkedIn, because “this is your resume online.” Plus, users can face real backlash if they post something that’s too obviously gen

One thing a lot of us forget when looking at a good home theater setup is the audio side of things.
