It sounds like Apple is preparing a big AirPods update for WWDC next week. A report from 9to5Mac says the company is working on a new feature that will let you control your iPhone or iPad’s camera with your AirPods. The feature will reportedly allow you to snap a picture by tapping the stem of your AirPods. As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple is also planni

Everyone knows the iPhone is Apple’s most popular product. But per a newly published study, what you might not have known is how well the iPad stacks up to Apple’s top seller, and laps the Mac’s popularity at the same time. iPad users are almost as common as iPhone users, and more than double the Mac CIRP recently performed a survey of Apple customers to get a sense of how the company’s three tentpole products—iPhone, iPad, and Mac—are performing. One focus was on understanding the power of A

One place that could use a productivity boost is Spotlight. Sure, it works well, but it's not nearly as productive a tool as some of its competitors. Take, for instance, Raycast. I’ve been sitting on this draft for a few days now, partly because I thought it would turn down the bitterness, and partly because I kept asking myself whether I should even write it. But I think it is worth getting out of my system, so here goes. In case you’re not in the Mac community, Sky is an app that brings AI automation to the Mac that Federico Viticci wrote about at length last week, and that not only looks and feels exactly like what I would expect Apple Intelligence to be like, it als

Machine Code Isn't Scary The first programming language I ever learned was ActionScript. Writing code for Macromedia's Flash might be the furthest away from "bare metal" as you can possibly get. As I continued learning new languages, this starting heritage stuck with me. I was mostly interested in high-level, "web languages". Low-level languages felt impenetrable. Over time, I learned a bit more about them here and there, but for some reason, this notion stuck with me. Low-level things are scar

Last week, I said that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX‘s remixing of the original Gundam continuity was letting several of the original series’ biggest characters haunt the narrative, from the absent Amuro Ray, to the slightly less absent Char Aznable, and then the one figure who’s really been skirting around the edges of GQuuuuuuX‘s periphery in earnest, the mysterious Lalah Sune. This week, Lalah stopped skirting… and then some. To the surprise of no one after last week’s setup, episode nine of

This new settings page can be found under System > Recovery, and it will help toggle the feature and choose how often the device looks for solutions and restarts. Elyse Betters Picaro / ZDNET I'm all about being efficient. Whether it's on my phone, a desktop, or a laptop, I want my workflow to be fast, smooth, and simple. Because of that, I'm always on the search for tools to improve how I do what I do. Although MacOS has a built-in search tool (Spotlight), I don't use it because it doesn't offer the flexibility I need. So when I came across Alfred, my curiosity was piqued. Could this app be exactly what I need in a MacOS search tool? Also: How to make

Shopping for a new laptop can be overwhelming. How much money should you pay, and what kind of computer should you go for? The latest and greatest, or the most affordable you can get so you can keep cash in your pocket? It all depends on whether you’re constantly on the move or just want a streamlined setup that keeps up with everything from work meetings to Netflix binges. But no matter your purpose, one thing is for sure: a MacBook Air can handle just about anything you need, and if you can ge

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority I used to trust that the Google Play Store would reliably update all my Android apps in the background, but recently I’ve grown more skeptical. Some apps seemingly gain new versions regularly, while others haven’t been updated for ages. This isn’t a case of developers dragging their feet, either. So, to allay my fears, I’ve used the tools at my disposal to create a workaround. If you own a Samsung phone, you can use its Modes and Routines feature to regularly

The new MacOS, set to be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9, will reportedly stick with Apple's convention since 2013 of naming the operating system version after scenic California nature spots such as Big Sur and Sequoia. A representative for Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The version number will also change, jumping from what would

Back from 2005 to 2009, Apple used to have a neat little software feature called ‘Front Row’. It essentially allowed you to utilize an Apple TV remote with your Mac, and take advantage of a unique software interface for watching content. It didn’t last very long, but I think now could be a pretty unique time to reintroduce it. I’ve been a huge fan of the new M4 Mac mini. It’s nice and compact, and an incredible value desktop computer. You can read more of my thoughts on the M4 Mac mini here. H

After years of unsuccessful attempts to find the name of a long-forgotten app through Google, I tried pasting my query into Gemini: “Back in my teens I saw a software demo for a Mac/Windows app that tracked what you were doing and offered to complete repetitive tasks for you. Like renaming all files in a folder it would interrupt after a few and offer to do the rest. Maybe late 80s or early 90s.” Gemini instantly responded with the app by name and with references. Here’s a fun one for Mac nostalgia fans: a new project by hobbyist Nick Gillard has taken the idea of mini retro builds to a whole micro level. Called the pico-mac-nano, this is a working replica of the original Macintosh that stands just 62 millimeters tall (that’s 2.4 inches for you, Casey Liss). And what’s more, you can actually run MacPaint and MacWrite on it. How awesome is that? The project (via BoingBoing) builds on an earlier open-source emulator by Matt Evans, who had already managed

This name will accompany Apple’s first macOS redesign since Big Sur in 2020. That’s where Upgraded comes in. It’s a smarter way to stay current — without the upfront cost or the trade-in hassle.
