Samsung S95F QD-OLED Review: The Best Looking TV Screen of 2025

As a Samsung phone user of more than a decade, I still mostly hate using Samsung TVs. The stupid interface is annoying and hard to navigate, the apps are not that great, and I often stumble into some random section or other when I’m looking for something basic, like an input button, on the remote. The screen on Samsung’s flagship S95F QD-OLED is so utterly gorgeous that none of this matters. Gorgeous black levels, insane colors, and a truly cinematic matte screen make this TV the prettiest I ha

Say Cheese! Here's How to Use Your AirPods to Take an iPhone Picture in iOS 26

Taking photos can be a fun way to save and share memories, but sometimes getting a good picture can be difficult. For example, if you're taking a selfie, you might find it hard to hold your phone at the right angle to get everyone in the shot while keeping your hand out of frame and still being able to press the capture button. But when Apple releases iOS 26 this fall, it will let you use your AirPods to take photos so you can just worry about getting everyone's best angle. Apple released the s

A Viral Cybertruck Hoax Got So Big, Tesla Had to Break Its Silence

Elon Musk has always wanted the Cybertruck to be the vehicle everyone talks about. After a bizarre video went viral over the weekend, he got his wish, just not in the way he intended. The rumor grew so outlandish and spread so far that Tesla, a company that famously doesn’t have a public relations department, was forced to do something it rarely does: publicly deny it. The incident highlights the Cybertruck’s strange and precarious position. It’s a vehicle so polarizing and so relentlessly hype

The importance of offtopic

The importance of offtopic Apr 15, 2025 · 1200 words · 6 minute read · go back The early days 🔗 I’ve been working remotely for over a decade – way before it was cool. My first big job in the industry had me as one of two people in Warsaw, with the rest of the team in Oslo. I’ve never seen any of my Norwegian co-workers at that point, but one the first pieces of direct feedback I got from my manager was: “the teammembers like you; they feel like you’re part of the team.” That was nice to hea

Unemployment rising in remote-friendly occupations (2024)

The recent rise in unemployment is steeper in occupations where remote work is more widespread. A continued rise could shift bargaining power towards employers who want workers to return to the office. Last week Amazon announced that its workers would need to work in person five days a week starting in January. Since tech has been the sector most open to remote work, and Amazon is such a dominant tech company, Amazon’s announcement prompts the question: could remote work, after jumping during t

Checking Out CPython 3.14's remote debugging protocol

From Python 3.14, python -m pdb -p pid lets you connect a pdb session to a running Python process. This post goes into a part of what makes this possible. The barrier to entry for writing general debugging tools for Python programs has always been quite low. Unlike many languages, you're rarely finding yourself working with weird internals. Instead, debugging tools can be built off of pretty straightforward knowledge of the language. This is powered by the languages treating things like exc

MagSafe Monday: KraftGeek’s JustTap Tripod is perfect for Continuity Camera

At first glance, the KraftGeek JustTap Tripod might seem like it’s only useful for content creation, but in my testing, it’s a lot more than that. It’s obviously great for mobile creators who don’t want to worry about whether their mount fits their case, but I also found it super useful for getting your iPhone at the perfect angle when using it as a Mac webcam. Some of my favorite gear Abode Home Security System Abode is the best home security system and includes compatibility with HomeKit. Ma

Roku Streaming Stick Plus Review: Cheap, Simple, and Pretty

Roku has yet to disappoint me. Where other brands change form factors, interfaces, and product support with what can feel like alarming regularity even for insiders like me, Roku, with its rounded square interface, pleasantly rubbery remote controller, and joyously simple plug-and-play stick design, has held the course. When the new Roku Streaming Stick Plus arrived at my house, it felt like it was 2012 all over again. That Obama-era techno-optimism—remember when social media was on the right s

Kodiak is using Vay’s remote driving tech in its self-driving trucks

Self-driving trucks developed by Kodiak Robotics contain some remote-driving DNA courtesy of Vay, a driverless car-sharing startup out of Berlin. The two companies, which announced a partnership Wednesday, have been working together since last year when Kodiak’s self-driving trucks began making driverless deliveries for Atlas Energy Solutions in the oil-rich Permian Basin of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. And it will play a critical operational and safety role when Kodiak, which plans to g

Making TRAMP faster

I recently changed jobs and found myself in a position where I would need to do a lot of work on remote machines. Since I am Emacs user, the most common way to do this is using TRAMP (Transparent Remote access, Multiple Protcol). TRAMP is an Emacs package that let’s you treat a remote host like a local system, similar to VSCode Remote Development Extension. I had used TRAMP before and it tended to be slow. Since I would be using it all day now I figured I should take some time to make it faster.
