Satechi’s latest SSD enclosure, the USB4 Slim NVMe SSD Enclosure, lets you add up to 8TB of SSD storage to any Mac – though it is specifically styled to make the perfect addition to an M4 Mac mini. You can currently save $20 to pick one up for $99.

The company says the design is inspired by a now-elderly form of storage: the Apple USB SuperDrive, a now-discontinued external CD and DVD drive …

Here’s what the company has to say about it:

Harnessing USB4 technology for blazing-fast transfer speeds up to 40Gbps (3840MB/s), this sleek, high-performance enclosure is inspired by the Apple USB SuperDrive. It supports multiple SSD sizes—including 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280—offering unmatched storage flexibility and expandable capacity of up to 8TB. Perfect for professionals handling large video projects, high-resolution photo libraries, or extensive gaming collections, it provides a cost-effective alternative to expensive internal upgrades. Instead of being limited by built-in storage, users can swap SSDs as needed, ensuring a future-proof solution for any workflow.

Satechi wanted the unit to be as slim as possible, which does bring some limitations. There’s not enough room for double-sided SSD cards, nor for those with attached heat-sinks. It’s also not compatible with SATA M.2 SSDs. But it should work for the majority of 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280 cards.

The enclosure costs $119.99, but 9to5Mac readers can currently save $20 by using discount code LIMITED20 at checkout.

Adding storage will range in price from less than $70 to around $600, depending on both physical size and capacity. Compatible SSDs range from 1TB 2230 cards through to 8TB 2280 cards.
