If you’ve recently been experiencing YouTube crashes on your smartphone, Google has a fix in store — though iOS users might need to do a little more than update.
Yesterday, several complaints surfaced on r/YouTube pointing towards issues with YouTube on both Android and iOS devices. Viewers complained of app crashes, video playback errors, and general unresponsiveness. Google confirmed it was aware of these issues in a forum post, recommending users delete and reinstall the app from either the Play Store or App Store while it worked on an update. Now, at least for iOS users, that troubleshooting step has become official guidance.
According to an update on Google’s support post, whatever bugs were plaguing YouTube’s mobile apps are now fixed. Reading between the lines, Android users should just be able to update the app through the Play Store to get everything back to normal, but iOS users aren’t so lucky. If you’re on an iPhone or iPad and YouTube isn’t working as intended, Google says you’ll need to reinstall the app from the App Store to get it back to normal.
Despite various forum posts spread throughout sites like Reddit, it doesn’t seem as though these app crashes were widespread enough to earn an official post from Team YouTube on social media. This also, of course, had nothing to do with YouTube’s ongoing war against ad blockers, no matter how many Redditors seemed to suspect otherwise.
