Today, Apple rolled out an update to its Final Cut apps, with full support for the new camera features of the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro. Here’s what’s new As Apple showcased during its Awe Dropping event last week, the new iPhones, particularly the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, introduce multiple new software and hardware features aimed at video creators, from amateurs to professionals. The Center Stage camera, for instance, leverages the square sensor of the front camera and automatically adjusts the aspect ratio, including switching to landscape orientation, without the user having to actually turn their iPhone sideways (and possibly drop it). This feature is available in all new iPhones, including the base iPhone 17. As for the iPhone 17 Pro, the device features ProRes RAW, which allows for a more flexible and controlled post-production process. It also brings Genlock support, which lets pro video creators leverage techniques such as time-splicing, and even the famous bullet-time effect, provided they have the necessary extra hardware. For this reason, Apple is updating most of its creative video suite, including Compressor and Motion. Chief among today’s updates are Final Cut Pro for Mac, Final Cut Pro for the iPad, and the Final Cut Camera app for the iPhone. Here are Apple’s release notes from each update: Final Cut Pro 11.2 for Mac Unlock even more controls for ProRes RAW video shot on iPhone, so you can adjust exposure, color temperature, tint, and demosaicing. (ProRes RAW capture requires supported iPhone models.) Edit and play back your Apple Log 2 footage with the vibrancy of the original scene by applying the Apple Log 2 LUT. Includes stability and performance improvements.
