One of Amazon's most popular tablets, the Fire HD 10, is 50% off for a limited time ahead of the commerce giant's October Prime Day sale. The new starting price of $70 makes the budget-friendly tablet even more accessible.

What do you get for the money? Let's start with the base tier, which has been discounted from $140 to $70. Paying the entrance fee gets you mostly the same hardware as the more expensive models, including the 10-inch display, 3GB of RAM, and a suite of Amazon-partnered apps and services.
While some apps that you may be familiar with through Android and iPadOS tablets aren't readily available from Amazon's app store, you can open most services through the Amazon browser.

What are the caveats of the base model Fire HD tablet? 32GB of storage and lock screen ads. I'm more accepting of the latter since the ads only appear on the lock screen, which you'll hardly spend time on if you're planning to use this tablet for media consumption and browsing.
As for the storage, you can plug in a MicroSD card (up to 1TB) for expanded memory, but I'd recommend going a tier up and paying $10 more for the 64GB variant. That way, you'll have more than enough internal storage to download plenty of apps and games.
That's to say, you've got options aplenty during this October Prime Day. The Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet is a great deal if you've been shopping for a budget-friendly tablet, whether it's for casual consumption or for a child. And it helps that Amazon tends to produce thousands of units, so you'll likely qualify for one-day or even overnight shipping when you buy one.
