It began in 2020, and since then, Apple has steadily gone from the computer employees begging IT to support to a platform CIOs now consider as mission-critical. A new CIO survey shows Apple makes up 63% of endpoints in the enterprise today. 95% of IT leaders plan to grow their Mac purchases over the next two years. 73% are already running AI workloads on Apple devices. Apple Silicon, combined with end-to-end hardware and software, and strong price-to-performance, has led to an incredible run for Apple in the enterprise.

About Apple @ Work: Bradley Chambers managed an enterprise IT network from 2009 to 2021. Through his experience deploying and managing firewalls, switches, a device management system, enterprise grade Wi-Fi, thousands of Macs, and thousands of iPads, Bradley highlights the ways Apple IT managers deploy Apple devices, build networks to support them, train users, share stories from the trenches of IT management, and point out ways Apple could improve its products for IT departments.

We have come a long way from having to promote Macs as part of an employee choice program. Today, Apple is a first-class citizen in the enterprise for workstations. More than nine in ten organizations reported an increase in Apple device usage in the last two years. We may only be a few years away from saying that Windows is part of an employee choice program, as Macs are becoming increasingly central to core business work.
AI and Apple Silicon drive sales for Apple with CIOs
73% of organizations are already running AI processing on Apple devices. The combination of Apple Silicon and on-device Apple Intelligence features is changing the way CIOs view the Mac. 60% of those surveyed said Apple Silicon significantly influenced their adoption of Macs. Another 33% said it somewhat influenced their decision.
I knew that Apple Silicon was a complete paradigm shift the first time I used it, and we now have nearly universal recognition that Apple hardware has shifted the enterprise conversation.
