Logitech mice stop working on Macs for an embarrassing reason, require manual fix

If the Logitech mouse you use with your Mac has stopped working properly, it’s not just you – and the problem has occurred for a very embarrassing reason.

The problem means the app cannot even be automatically updated to resolve the issue. Instead, you’ll have to manually install a patch …

A Redditor highlighted the problem they experienced with their MX Master 3S yesterday.

I have been using an MX Master 3S for Mac for almost two years with almost no issues. Today all of a sudden I noticed that my mouse had randomly changed scroll directions and all the extra buttons were not working as I intended. This prompted me to open the Logi+ app to see if anything had changed due to an update or something and what I encounter is the app being stuck in a boot loop. I have tried everything, from resetting my laptop, resetting my mouse (I doubt the mouse has any issues but just to be safe), force quitting and fresh installing the app again without any luck.

A fellow Redditor quickly identified the cause: Logitech had allowed its Apple Developer Certificate to expire!

Because the certificate was no longer valid, not only would the companion app not run, but it also couldn’t be automatically updated for the same reason.

To give the company credit, it did very rapidly own up to what it described as an inexcusable mistake.

We dropped the ball here. This is an inexcusable mistake. We’re extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused.

The company has created a support page with instructions for fixing the issue.
