GoKawiilOver the last several weeks, Apple has held celebrations for its upcoming 50th anniversary around the world, including performances by Alicia Keys at Apple Grand Central in New York City and Mumford & Sons at Apple Battersea in London.
Now, new details have emerged about the finale of the Apple 50th anniversary festivities, set for this week.
According to Mark Gurman, Apple is set to hold a final celebration at Apple Park this week for employees. While he stopped short of specifically naming who will the performer will be, it seems pretty clear based on his hint.
“Staffers are pumped after being told who the headliner is,” Gurman wrote in a post on social media. “Let me just say he’s still going strong, was part of the British Invasion and Jobs would’ve been ecstatic.”
This is almost certainly Paul McCartney, who of course was an icon of the British Invasion as part of The Beatles. He’s also still going strong, having just wrapped a tour in November and played a pair of shows in Los Angeles this weekend. He also recently announced a new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, set for a release on May 29.
Steve Jobs was also a huge fan of The Beatles. When The Beatles finally came to iTunes in 2010, Jobs said the following in the accompanying press release:
“We love the Beatles and are honored and thrilled to welcome them to iTunes. It has been a long and winding road to get here. Thanks to the Beatles and EMI, we are now realizing a dream we’ve had since we launched iTunes ten years ago.”
The Apple Park celebration will be limited to Apple employees and perhaps their close family members. I desperately hope Apple records the concert and releases it to the general public. I’d love to see Paul McCartney playing a gig at the rainbow stage inside the Apple Park ring.
