Why This Matters

Verizon's new horror-themed ad 'Look Behind You' has gone viral, leveraging humor and a popular actor to boost brand visibility amid recent challenges. The campaign's rapid social media success highlights the power of creative marketing in capturing consumer attention and improving brand perception in a competitive industry.

Key Takeaways

TL;DR Verizon has released a four-minute horror-themed ad movie titled “Look Behind You,” directed by Nia DaCosta and starring Connor Storrie.

The plot involves eerie occurrences in a cabin that turn out to be accidental butt-dials, all of which go through thanks to Verizon’s strong network signal.

The film garnered seven million views in its first four hours, setting a record for the carrier’s fastest social media engagement.

Verizon has had a lot of bad press in the past few months, whether it’s its massive downsizing or severe network disruptions. The company needs to be in the limelight for the right reasons, and it seems the carrier has finally struck gold with…Connor Storrie’s butt?

Connor feels he is being stalked, with an unknown number texting him that he’s coming for him. Connor opens the door, knife in his hand…only to find a rideshare driver coming to pick him up. That’s when he realizes all the eerie incidents were butt-dials from the Verizon-equipped phone in his back pocket.

Verizon wraps up the ad with the taglines “The Best Butt. The Best Network. There’s no escape.” Connor ends it with “Service so good, it’s scary.” Scary good ending, I say.
