Anbernic, one of the most prolific makers of handheld consoles and emulators, isn’t afraid to experiment with creative designs. After debuting a wireless controller with a heart rate monitor earlier this year, the company has announced a new gaming device with a square design, basic controls, and a swiveling touchscreen. What’s not so creative is the name of the new device; the Anbernic RG Rotate.

The company shared a video yesterday showing off some of the RG Rotate’s features. The handheld’s screen swivels using a “self-developed ultra-thin alloy hinge built for lasting durability.” Even companies like Nintendo sometimes struggle with keeping moving parts durable on their devices, so hopefully Anbernic has come up with a hinge design that will last.

There are no tech specs for the RG Rotate yet, including what processor it will use or what consoles it will be powerful enough to emulate. The video reveals it will feature a body made from a mix of aluminum and ABS plastic and include a set of basic controls similar to the folding RG35XXSP with just a D-pad and four action buttons but no thumbsticks. One standout feature of the RG Rotate is adjustable height L2/R2 shoulder buttons to accommodate a player’s preferences. There’s no launch date yet, but the device is expected to release soon.
