Apple has released a new version of GarageBand for Mac. The new version finally includes an app icon optimized for macOS Tahoe.
Apple released macOS Tahoe to the public on September 15, 2025, over 200 days ago, so it’s great to see GarageBand finally receive the love it deserves.
As part of macOS 26, Apple forced all app icons to use the same rounded rectangle shape as iOS and iPadOS apps. Icons that don’t conform are squished down into a round-rect with a gray background.
While the new icon no longer has the gray compatibility box on macOS Tahoe, the actual app itself is still designed for macOS 15.
Before and afte
The release notes for GarageBand version 10.4.14 only mention stability improvements and bug fixes. The new app update also increases the minimum macOS version from macOS 14.4 to macOS 15.6, according to @aaronp613.
While GarageBand is still around as a free app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, Apple’s focus lately has shifted toward the paid app suite with Creator Studio. Earlier this month, Apple released new versions of Logic for iPad and Mac.
Apple Creator Studio with Logic included is available for $12.99/month or $129/year after a free trial.
GarageBand is available for free on the App Store.
