DirecTV just joined the entertainment selection on the Meta Quest VR headset so you can watch live TV and more -- but without a TV screen. The company announced on Thursday the app's arrival on the virtual reality devices and plugged the launch as the first "multichannel video programming distributor" in the space to do it. You don't necessarily need a DirecTV subscription to watch programming, either.
The app is available through the Meta Horizon Store or Horizon TV for three different Meta Quest models: 2, 3, 3S and Pro. Access to MyFree DirecTV's lineup of ad-supported (and free) channels is included for anyone with a Meta Quest headset, but you'll need one of DirecTV's paid packages to watch sports, TV shows and movies live or its selection of on-demand content.
Other streaming services like Disney Plus and Prime Video are already available on Meta's VR headsets, but DirecTV's live TV streaming experience is moving things in a new direction.
Meta recently let customers know it's raising the cost of the Quest 3 and 3S due to the current RAM shortage. But the Meta Quest 2 and 3 remain our favorites among the crop of VR headsets. CNET's Scott Stein has piloted multiple tests on each model and handpicked recommendations for the best apps and experiences on the device.
