Why This Matters

Google's Gemini AI now allows users to generate various file types directly within the chat, streamlining workflows and reducing the need for manual formatting or copying. This enhancement could significantly improve productivity for both individual users and businesses by simplifying document creation and management. As this feature rolls out globally, it signals a move toward more integrated and efficient AI-powered tools in everyday digital tasks.

Key Takeaways

Gemini has just added a new feature that could boost your efficiency when tackling some of those mundane tasks you need to get done. Announced on Wednesday, Google's AI tool can now generate files directly in the chat just by prompting it.

Depending on the task at hand, Gemini could previously generate a document in the chat that you'd need to copy and paste into the software of your choosing. This also meant that you might have to spend some time reformatting it to your liking.

Now, all you have to do is ask Gemini to generate the file type you want, like "generate a PDF file," and it will get to work.

To test this, I asked Gemini to generate a quick grocery list for easy meals. It did so easily enough, but I then asked to have the list saved as a PDF. After a few seconds, a fully formatted PDF (with a little flourish, even) was generated, which I could send to my email for easy access.

Google says that for most formats, you'll be able to download the file directly from the chat, but in some instances, you'll need to export them to Google Drive, which is just a click away.

Here are the available formats that Gemini can generate for you in the chat:

Google Docs

Google Sheets

Google Docs

Microsoft Word (.docx)
