Why This Matters

The Apple Watch Ultra 4's upcoming redesign and sensor upgrades are significant for the tech industry, as they promise to enhance user experience and boost sales. These improvements also highlight Apple's focus on premium, feature-rich wearables and could influence competitors to innovate further. For consumers, the upgrades mean more advanced health and fitness tracking, along with a more stylish and functional device.

Key Takeaways

Apple has 15+ new products launching this fall, including the Apple Watch Ultra 4. And a new report highlights two major upgrades coming with Apple Watch Ultra 4.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 will have ‘major redesign’ and significant sensor upgrades

Last summer, Digitimes reported the first details regarding what’s coming with Apple Watch Ultra 4. It said there would be design “alterations,” double the number of sensors, and much better power efficiency.

Since then, however, there’s been surprisingly little reported on the new model.

But today, nearly a year after that last report, Digitimes has a new update on two major changes it highlights for Apple Watch Ultra 4. The new model will have:

A “major redesign,” also referred to as a “full redesign” and a “significant upgrade to sensing functions”

The report says market watchers expect the redesign could boost shipments by 20-30% over last year.

The upgrade in sensors, which sounds very much in line with last year’s report, is said to have a huge upside for Apple’s exclusive sensor supplier, TASC. Siu Han writes:

Market expectations are that the 2H26 high-end Apple Watch refresh will bring a significant upgrade to sensing functions alongside a full redesign. Taiwan-Asia Semiconductor (TASC) has long been Apple’s exclusive supplier of sensor components and is expected to be a major beneficiary, with new products likely to trigger large-volume orders as early as July and outperforming the first half of the year during the traditional second-half peak season.

With rumors of Apple launching its first iPhone Ultra this year, alongside a MacBook Ultra and possibly AirPods Ultra, it sounds like the company plans to go all-out with its Ultra line. And of course, we’re also expecting a new Mac Studio with M5 Ultra.
