Last fall, rumors indicated iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max would be thicker and heavier than iPhone 17 Pro.

However, only recently did we learn that the additional thickness would be limited to one specific area: the camera plateau. The rest of the iPhone is identical in thickness to last year.

YouTuber Vadir Yuryev shared a hands-on with dummy models back in April that revealed iPhone 18 Pro’s plateau thickness, including the cameras, is a significant increase from iPhone 17 Pro.

iPhone 17 Pro Max thickness including cameras: 12.92mm

Most of the increase is due to camera size, but the aluminum plateau itself is thicker too.
