How Orlando made its streets safer for pedestrians

After years of being one of the most dangerous cities for pedestrians, Orlando is reversing the trend. ixty-eight-year-old John Oakes took the same walk every afternoon circling his small community of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. On Aug. 1, 2024, as the hot summer sun trickled through Spanish moss, his daughter Chrissy spoke to him on the phone before he embarked on his daily stroll.
