Key Takeaways

Spotify is rolling out a new feature that lets users add short notes to individual tracks on their playlists. Here are the details.

User Notes now available in select markets

Spotify has announced User Notes (via TechCrunch), a new feature that lets users append short, 240-character-long notes to individual tracks on their playlists.

The platform says that its intention with the new feature is to make users feel more connected to the songs on their playlists, “bringing together personalization and added context around the music that listeners love,” Spotify to TechCrunch.

The company added that “[o]ver time, these notes paint a picture of the music listeners love and the moments that shaped it.”

One important detail is the fact that notes are visible to all users with access to the user’s playlist, which Spotify warns at the bottom of the text input field.

The platform says the feature is rolling out in select markets to both free and Premium users aged 16 and older. To add a note, users can tap the ellipsis button next to a track and select “Add note.” Once saved, the note appears below the song in the playlist, much like a social media post.

Spotify’s new “User Notes” feature is available for playlists users created themselves or have contributed to. Its was announced alongisde Running Mode, a new workout feature that builds personalized playlists around a user’s running goals, music taste, and pace.
