iOS 18.4 brings Apple Intelligence support to a lot of new languages, expands Image Playgrounds with a new style, and also includes another AI addition: Priority Notifications.
Priority Notifications in iOS 18.4: The most important alerts go to the top
Priority Notifications is an Apple Intelligence feature designed to help you get your notifications under control.
While Apple offers a variety of tools to micromanage notifications to your liking, enabling or disabling them for certain apps, or in different Focus modes, this new Apple Intelligence feature aims to do the work for you.
Off by default in iOS 18.4 beta 1, you can enable the feature by going to:
the Settings app tapping ‘Notifications’ opening ’Prioritize Notifications’ then enable the feature
Here’s a summary of what it can do:
Apple Intelligence can show you notifications that may be important in a separate section on the Lock Screen, so you can catch up on what you may have missed. You can still swipe up to view all notifications.
Basically, your iPhone uses on-device intelligence to analyze the importance of various notifications, and puts ones deemed especially important into a new section that sits atop your other notifications.
Normally, iOS sorts notifications based on how new they are, with the most recent alerts right at the top. But with Prioritize Notifications enabled, the most important alerts are shown first regardless of how long ago you received them.
If you’ve used the new Mail app’s priority mail feature, where certain messages deemed important are elevated to the top of your inbox—Priority Notifications basically works just like that.
