TL;DR YouTube introduced Stations earlier this year, featuring 24/7 content streams from musical artists.
Now Google is expanding Stations to also include podcasts, creator content, and more.
Access is only getting started with a small number of creators initially.
Like any good streaming service, YouTube is always working to find the next big hook that will keep viewers glued to their screens, video after video. Earlier this year, we spotted a fresh addition to YouTube’s offerings in the form of Stations, 24/7 streams that appeared designed to connect you with an endless feed of content from your favorite musical artists. And now, Stations are getting a bit of an expansion.
YouTube is constantly trying out new experiments, and this month, the service shares that its latest involves building Stations around even more diverse content than just music. While you’ll still see Stations from musical performers, they’re also starting to expand to cover podcasts, media channels, and just regular creator content.
For now, it sounds like YouTube is content to take its time with this new approach, waiting to see how the response goes before opening the floodgates; it’s specifically limiting creator involvement, at least initially, so don’t be surprised if your favorite channels don’t immediately launch Stations of their own.
YouTube’s also not yet highlighting Stations with a dedicated home in its interface, and instead you’ll see them sporadically appearing in both Home and Search feeds on YouTube and YouTube Music, alike.
So far we have yet to actually spot any of these new Stations for ourselves, but with YouTube’s announcement only landing late last week, it sounds like these recent additions could be just starting to trickle out. Let us know down in the comments if you spot any on your device, and share what you think about them — is this a real addition to YouTube, or just another way to steal even more of your attention?
