GoKawiilUS Treasury Labels Italian Privacy Host Autistici/Inventati a Global Terrorist
On August 26, 2026, the US government added the volunteer-run Italian collective Autistici/Inventati—operator of the noblogs.org hosting platform—to its list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists, citing its 'far-left' political orientation. The same announcement designated the UK group Palestine Action and the Palestinian movement Masar Badil. Autistici/Inventati, founded in 2001, provides free email, blogs, mailing lists and websites to roughly 16,000 mailboxes and thousands of independent projects, including anti-fascist researchers and cultural organizations.
GoKawiil's interpretation of the reporting above, not reported fact.
Terrorist designations typically freeze assets and criminalize material support, so applying one to a nonprofit tech collective could effectively cut off donations and hosting for thousands of unrelated blogs, book fairs, and anti-fascist research projects that rely on noblogs.org. Critics see this as an expansion of 'terrorist' labeling into the realm of political speech and independent media infrastructure, raising concerns about precedent for targeting activist-adjacent tech services rather than groups engaged in violence.
- Autistici/Inventati, an Italian volunteer collective hosting free privacy tools, was designated a Global Terrorist by the US on August 26, 2026.
- The designation was issued alongside similar labels for Palestine Action and Masar Badil, both tied to Palestinian solidarity activism.
- The platform hosts thousands of independent sites, including anti-fascist researchers, raising fears the designation could disrupt legitimate journalism and activism.
