The Autistici/Inventati (A/I) collective, which for 25 years ran free, privacy-focused digital services, announced it is shutting down all operations. The decision follows being labeled a global terrorist organization, which the group says exposed users, contributors and their families to legal and physical danger.
The State Department and Treasury designated Italy's Autistici/Inventati as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order 13224 on August 26, accusing it of running encrypted communications, hosting and anonymity infrastructure used by far-left and Antifa-linked groups, including alleged links to the PKK. Analyst Beniamino Irdi argues the move is notable not for another extremism crackdown, but for applying 'material support' sanctions directly to technological infrastructure providers rather than individuals who commit acts.
On August 26, 2026, the US government added the volunteer-run Italian collective Autistici/Inventati—operator of the noblogs.org hosting platform—to its list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists, citing its 'far-left' political orientation. The same announcement designated the UK group Palestine Action and the Palestinian movement Masar Badil. Autistici/Inventati, founded in 2001, provides free email, blogs, mailing lists and websites to roughly 16,000 mailboxes and thousands of independent projects, including anti-fascist researchers and cultural organizations.
OFAC designated Autistici Inventati, an Italian hosting and email provider, for supplying digital infrastructure used by Antifa-linked cells and other violent far-left networks. The same action sanctioned UK group Palestine Action and Masar Badil, described as a front for the PFLP, under counterterrorism authority Executive Order 13224.
