GoKawiilHonor's Robot Phone puts a folding gimbal camera inside a smartphone, launches only in China
Honor has begun selling its experimental Robot Phone in China, a device that hides a tiny three-axis gimbal mechanism behind the main 200-megapixel camera on its back. The company says it engineered a custom 2.6-gram motor to make the mechanism small enough to fit inside a handset, though the result is a 9.6mm-thick phone. Despite showing the device internationally at MWC 2026, Honor is limiting the launch to a small production run in its home market for now.

Smartphone makers have struggled to differentiate cameras beyond incremental sensor and software upgrades, so building physical stabilization hardware directly into the phone is a notable engineering bet. Restricting sales to China first mirrors how other manufacturers, like Samsung with its foldables, test costly or unproven designs before committing to global rollout amid rising component costs.
- Honor's Robot Phone integrates a folding three-axis gimbal for its 200MP main camera, avoiding external gimbal accessories.
- The phone is only available in China for now, suggesting a cautious, limited production strategy.
- It also includes a 200MP telephoto with 2.7x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide camera, alongside a 50MP front camera.
