GoKawiilWriter uses AI coding tools to port Morrowind, Duke Nukem 3D and Serious Sam to iPhone
A tech journalist with no coding background says he used AI coding assistants, including a paid ChatGPT Pro subscription, to build working iOS source ports of Duke Nukem 3D and Serious Sam in under a week, and Morrowind after several weeks of iteration. The resulting builds reportedly run smoothly with touch controls and take advantage of features like 120Hz ProMotion displays, all built by adapting existing open-source projects rather than writing original code from scratch.

This suggests AI coding agents are lowering the barrier for hobbyist software projects that once required real programming skill, letting enthusiasts modify and port complex open-source software themselves. It raises questions about the future role of professional developers, the legal and ethical status of AI-assisted derivative works, and how quickly niche fan projects could proliferate once technical expertise is no longer the limiting factor.
