Apple Pay has become one of the most popular payment methods in the world. It’s so universally available that even Walmart finally gave in and added support.
And with its popularity, any significant change Apple implements could be risky—especially a design change like iOS 27 brings.
Apple Pay has a new design in iOS 27 when checking out in apps or on the web. And I’m happy to report it’s a fantastic upgrade that’s better in every way.
The old checkout design had a couple main faults:
Switching cards wasn’t intuitive Onscreen data wasn’t easy to parse at a glance
Despite years of using Apple Pay, I’ve still never gotten used to the historic method for switching cards. I always tap near the top where the active card is displayed, only to load the address screen and have to go back to find the actual card selection menu.
iOS 27 fixes that. When you first open the checkout interface, you’ll see additional cards on either side of your default card, indicating you can swipe between them to switch. It’s quick, easy, and far more intuitive.
