Apple says more than 100,000 apps on the App Store have been built or adjusted for the iPhone Duo's 4:3 inner display, according to VP Susan Prescott. She noted thousands of new optimized apps are added daily, and that developers attended workshops in 19 cities over the past month to prepare updates. Examples cited include Microsoft Word, Outlook, Zoom, and sports apps like NBA and NHL that now use the larger screen format.
Apple has seeded the first beta of iOS 27.3, which brings back the redesigned Health app (split into Insights, Longevity and Browse tabs) that had been tested but dropped from iOS 27.2. The update also adds a Gym Strength feature for Apple Fitness+ that builds adaptive four-week workout plans, plus Reachability support for iPhone Duo.
Apple's iOS 27.2 update, released last week, adds a Siri 'Excluded Apps' setting that removes chosen apps from Siri, Search and suggestions. It also introduces customizable Messages Suggestions—contextual prompts like adding events to Calendar or Reminders—and brings Apple TV user profiles to iPhone for the first time, matching a feature long available only on tvOS.
Apple announced it will begin monitoring iCloud links shared with the "Anyone with the Link" setting, starting in iOS 27.3. The company says it may remove flagged content, disable accounts, block new account creation tied to the same email or phone number, and involve law enforcement for violations of its harmful content policy. Links restricted to specific approved people remain end-to-end encrypted and are not subject to this scanning.
Apple's iOS 27.2 update introduces invisible SynthID watermarking for images altered using Apple Intelligence tools, including Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframing in Photos, as well as images created in Image Playground and Image Wand. The watermark is undetectable to the naked eye, but users can verify its presence by uploading an image to synthid.com. The feature also rolls out alongside iOS 27.2 on iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS.
Apple released iOS 27.3 beta 1, bringing the redesigned StandBy experience first introduced on the iPhone Duo to other iPhone models. The update adds updated Analog and Digital Clock faces with more color and complication options, new Calendar and Weather faces, and Shared Albums support for the Photos face. iPhone 11 and later users can also create multiple customized versions of a single StandBy face and swipe between them.
Apple's iOS 27.3 beta 1 adds Siri AI support for Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese, bringing the total to 10 supported languages. This follows last week's iOS 27.2 release, which added French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support. The beta also includes new app actions, a Siri Recap feature, and expanded developer tools.
Apple has released iOS 27.3 beta 1, which brings Apple Intelligence to users in China for the first time. The update includes features such as real-time translation, Writing Tools, visual intelligence, Clean Up and Genmoji in Photos, Mail summaries and priority messages, notification summaries, and Siri improvements like Type to Siri. Notably absent is Siri's AI-enhanced capabilities tied to iOS 27's newer additions.
Apple announced that developers can now build Siri AI integrations, called 'app skills,' for any app, moving beyond the limited schemas supported in earlier Siri versions. The feature lets apps teach Siri to handle multi-step, cross-app actions and will roll out with iOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, and related updates. Apple has also used these foundational changes to add new Siri capabilities across its own apps.
Apple has released iOS 27.3 as a beta, adding extensive new Siri capabilities across apps including Music, Messages, Notes, Photos, Calendar, Reminders, Safari, Journal and Files. New voice commands let users build playlists, schedule or unsend messages, edit photos, create calendar invites, manage browser tabs, and organize files, among other tasks. Apple is also opening this Siri integration framework to third-party developers, with public release expected later this year.
Apple released iOS 27.3 beta 1, which adds a Reachability feature tailored to the iPhone Duo's wide outer display. Instead of shifting the screen down as on standard iPhones, the feature slides content left or right via a side swipe, accessible under Settings > Accessibility > Reachability. Apple had promised this fix after users complained the Duo's wide screen was hard to use one-handed, and a public beta is expected soon ahead of a full rollout likely in mid-December.
Apple has seeded the first developer beta of iOS 27.3, which brings back the redesigned Health app, adds Gym Strength workouts to Fitness+, and introduces vertical tabs and adaptive dark mode in Safari. The update also expands Siri AI's language support and app actions, adds Audio Intelligence features for Apple Watch, and updates Reachability and StandBy mode for iPhone Duo and standard iPhones.
