GoKawiilAlbuquerque man arrested after delivering torn-down Flock cameras to sheriff's office
Jevon Martinez filmed himself dismantling automatic license plate reader towers that Bernalillo County had left standing despite cancelling its contract with surveillance company Flock earlier this year. He then drove a truck bed full of the dismantled equipment to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department, framing it as returning the devices, and was arrested there at gunpoint by deputies in tactical gear.
GoKawiil's interpretation of the reporting above, not reported fact.
The incident highlights growing public backlash against license plate reader surveillance networks even after local governments formally end contracts with vendors like Flock, showing enforcement gaps between policy decisions and equipment removal. It also reflects a broader trend of individuals publicly destroying surveillance infrastructure and gaining sympathetic attention online, raising questions about how authorities balance property and privacy concerns against dramatic policing responses to nonviolent acts.
- Martinez dismantled Flock ALPR towers left standing after Bernalillo County ended its contract with the company.
- He delivered the parts directly to the Sheriff's Department and was arrested with a heavy show of force despite being unarmed.
